What do you eat after a tounge piercing?

star_dustling2 asked: My brother got his tounge piereced about a week ago and has been living on applesauce and pudding since then. Does anyone have any other suggestions as to what he can eat? He’s actually considered taking it out thinking that he will be able to eat sooner.

After 2 weeks…why is he still on a soft diet? He should be fine to eat whatever he wants now.

I got my tongue pierced 5 years ago, and the next day, I ate pizza. My tongue was a bit sore, but I managed.

If his tongue is still hurting now though, he may want to look into the idea of it being infected.

Milkshakes/ice cream have protein and will help keep you full. Oatmeal has fiber and would also help keep you full. Scrambled eggs good idea. Be carefull in choosing a tongue ring though b/c those metal posts can chip your teeth.

have had mine for 10yrs now, dont take it out….there are lots of food options. ice cream, mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, yogurt, oatmeal, babyfood (fruit flavors), soup. he should be able to eat semi soft foods by now too, such as macaroni and cheese, ramen noodles, spaghetti (cut up the noodles or they will wrap around it). hope these ideas help!!

Do eat lots of cold foods i.e. ice cream, frozen yogurt, suck on chipped or crushed ice, or very small ice blocks and drink lots of ice water this will alleviate pain and reduce swelling. Frozen ice blocks in packs from the supermarket are cheap and you can suck on them all day. keep cold water in the fridge, and add lots of ice to make it really cold, drink this when you first wake up in the morning. The swelling will be worse than usual because when you lie down more blood goes to your head, sip the iced water very slowly, this will help alleviate the swelling.
Do be careful when you first start eating solid food to take very small bites and be careful when you chew to keep your tongue level in your mouth while eating, so the jewellery doesn’t knock against your teeth, and so you don’t bite the barbell and shatter a tooth! This is less of a problem after you get the smaller barbell.
Don’t eat food that’s hot in temperature i.e. coffee, tea, soup as this can be painful during the healing phase. Don’t eat spicy hot food i.e. Chill or curry because this can be painful and increase the swelling during healing period.
Some food suggestions;
Jelly, buy those jelly packs which have mixed fruits in them that are softer, like pineapple, mango or lychee.
Marshamllows to help with sweet cravings
Oranges, etcetera

It’s nothing but a hassle…to have a pierced tongue. Take it out. If we were supposed to deal with our tongues pierced; God would have given us one to begin with. It has to make talking sound funny.
Take the thing out…

I lived on popsicles :) And EVERYONE is different. Mine was a month before I started eating totally normal. It depends on your pain tolerance. Pain after 2 weeks doesn’t necessarily mean it’s infected. Better to be safe than sorry but don’t expect the worst.

Avoid spicy foods and foods with a lot of yeast (yeast along with harsh aftercare like mouthwash can cause a thrush infection). He should be fine to eat anything else. He will find it much easier after he gets the jewelry downsized.
