I thank you all for the answers. It is good to know that I am not alone and that there are people out there that have understanding. Thank you all!

Go to your doctor. He or she will help you with this. It is fairly common and there are ways to treat it.

Find the underlying psychological issue that is causing them and then deal with that. It could take years… which is why it is hard.

Good luck… I know they suck.

Go to the depression forum at About.com and look for coping skills under the topics on the left of the screen. Lots of good advice there.

Paxil (by prescription) has helped many people with this problem. It also helps to keep a journal and document what triggers the attacks and when so that you can avoid the situation or correct the underlying problem.

I found a program that helped me with depression. It is also used for people with axiety disorders such as panic attacks. It is not cheap, but it only took me 15 weeks to get out of a deep depression I had been in for more than 6 years (and it is cheaper than going to a therapist). It was worth every penny for me. Check out the link below and see if the program might work for you.

Learn the source of your panic attacks, and talk about them with a professional on how to deal with them. They arent easy to overcome, i have the same problem.

Regularly practice attack. like fire drill. When you get used to it, you should be okay. Coping takes time

My husband had the same thing. They put him on Lexapro. He was fine for three years and it happened again. This time when he fell, he hit the sink, broke the orbit of his eye, his nose, ten stitches on the forehead, five stitches on the mouth, and he bruised his shoulder and the sternum.

panic attack occur when u are not to sure of ourselves or start to lack confidence . so when these attacks hit u ,it is a sign u are very nervous .first thing , breathe slowly ,count till ten and sing to yourself i am great ,i am the greatest ,I CAN SURELY OVERCOME THIS ! then try to notice someone in the crowd who u feel is getting clautrophobic as u and u should help them .
voila u forgot yr attack !!!! coz ur mind is diverted. build on your low steem .stay with friends , do not go anywhere alone for sometime .
i think that should help .all the best

I found focusing on a “happy place”, perhaps listening to music you enjoy, or even simply breathing exercises help to calm the symptoms. Speak to a professional about what methods will work for you as well as potentially finding the root of the anxiety.

It also never hurts to take time away from the day to so something you enjoy to unwind and decompress from the days events.

Good luck.

Breath in through your nose, hold to count of five, breath out through your mouth.Do this five times and try to relax and tell your self that it will be ok and that you will not die. That this has happened before and everything will be alright.
As far as curing it,that is for the doctor to say as i am on Lorazepam to calm me when my panic and anxiety start. It really does help me alot.

I have suffered from panic attack my whole life, They are awful, I think that it must be the worst feeling ever, and it is really scary.

I went to the Doctor and come to find out they weren’t panic attacks after all, It was low blood sugar, and it has the same side affects as a panic attack!!!! I would tell you next time you have one have a glass of orange juice, or a spoon full of peanut butter.

when you are having a low-blood sugar attack your heart will start to race, you feel panicky all over, you may start to sweat, and you may even pass out, and can be very dangerous if you do not take care of it. The sugar in the orange juice evens out you insulin in your blood stream, and the peanut butter gives you alot of protein, real fast….

Next time you have an attack try this, and I hope that it works!

Sometimes a panic attach looks like a heart attach and vica versa. Make SURE you cover the medical possibilitys of this problem first. If it is a true panic attach it may be caused by medicine or drugs or even by smoking pot. A few years back I was having panic attacks and what I would do was to go to the movies in my own head. In other words, I’d playback a movie in my head that I had seen before, preferrably a happy movie, and this woud divert my mind away from the attack and it would quickly subside. Eventually I quiet having them. I think this may have worked like a form of self hypnosis. If I feel like I’m going in that direction (of having an attack) I just divert my mind to something else now and the attack never happens. It takes practice, but you should be able to do it. If this method isn’t for you for any reason, I’d strongly advise you see a professional and get some help. Panic attacks are not something I would wish on my worst enemy. Good luck and don’t give up.
