How should we take care of our pregnant cat?

I wouldnt let her out of the house. Make sure you are never feeding her the crappy brands of pet food like, Special kitty. I would always feed her purina or science diet. Get her a bed and make sure she is eating, and when the cats are being born, i would just leave her alone becuz some mother cats get angry wen people watch them birth a bd they eat their kittens. If you want to watch, i would stay at a safe distance.

well theres no special thing you have to do.. just make sure she stays indoors more often if she is an outside cat.. and completely indoors wen its almost her time to give birth

buy cat food that is also for kittens

also.. during the last few weeks.. make a place like a closet her birthing place or sumwhere dark and secluded.. introduce it to her, as much as u can.. we locked our cat in our closet that had a box with towels and she soon had her kittens.. it was last minute tho
wen shes having her kitts.. just keep an eye on her .. once in a while peek in.. they dont like company too much :p

Well my mom has a rescue and has a lot of young mommy cats. See how she is getting along and pet here and baby her make here feel loved, sometimes you can feel the baby’s in her tummy. about the time she well have them she we find a place to hide and she well have them in the safes place she thinks is your home or if you have a 2 bathrooms then you can put here in it with a basket and some blankets she well do the rest.. Good luck ..

First thing - take the cat to the vet. He will be able to tell if the pregnancy is going well, and that the kittens are healthy. Many cats die having kittens because their owners didn’t take them to the vet for simple pre-screening.

If your cat is indoor./outdoor, keep her indoors from now on. That way, you can monitor what she’s eating, and when she has the kittens, she has to have them inside, where you can find them.

As for food, feed her high quality cat food. Leave out dry cat food for her all the time, but supplement with a good quality wet cat food. Some good brands are Innova, EVO, Solid Gold, Etc. Stay away from cat food you can find in a grocery store.

Also, as the time approaches, give her a number of places to have her kittens. Let her choose. Again, let her eat as much food as she wants, and make sure the kittens have enough food. Many first time cat mom’s don’t take care of their kittens properly before full instinct kicks in.

When the kittens are fully weaned, go and get Mom cat fixed. The world has too many unwanted cats that die every year, and there is no reason for someone to allow their cat to have kittens. There are number of low cost spay and neuter programs available. Just call your local humane society, or vet.

Spay her. Vets usually don’t give prenatal care. They spay cats and abort the kittens as long as the cat is not too far along because there are millions of homeless cats and kittens. Many of them are put to death at shelters.

I was at my local no-kill cat shelter from 12-5 today, as I am every Sunday and holiday. It is really sad to see all the cats and kittens that never find a home, even though they are so deserving. Too many people do not spay and neuter (or at least keep and care for the kittens that their cats produce). I have worked or volunteered at cat shelters for 13 years. and nothing has changed. Because people don’t spay and neuter, every spring and summer, shelters are inundated with kittens, most of whom will never find a home.

Purina and Science Diet are also crappy brands, although not quite as crappy as Special Kitty. Cats are carnivores and need meat protein, not grains and meat (poultry) by-products. Look for real meat to be the first ingredient listed on a cat food label, and make canned food the staple of the diet (meat protein and moisture). Wellness and Innova are examples of good quality dry food.

the most important thing is to make sure she has a good quality food (kitten food is recomended) and has water at all times also make sure to have a large box (cardboard is fine) set up with blankets or towels inside for her to have the babies in.put it in a quiet corner of the house preferably in a room where she spends alot of time. the female may chose another area to have the babies but at least this gives her a good option and you may need to move the kittens after they are born depending on where they are born i just had 2 of my females give birth one in my dresser drawer that i accidently left open and the other in my sons bed so i had to move both litters before they were even 12 hrs old. this is not recomended but is fine as long as the female is very comfortable and trusting with you and shows no signs of stress after the move and continues to care for the kittens. you may want to have thread and scissors on hand if you are there for the birth as well as a few exrta clean towels as the mother may not know what to do at first but it is doubtful they will actually be needed. if there is a stillborn kitten which happens sometimes i would remove it as soon as you get a chance to. you may try to revive it by rubbing it vigorously with a towel if this doesnt work it was probably dead before she went into labor which sometimes happens. well i hope this has helped you out some.
