How many MLB Baseball players have had panic attacks on the field?

SocalDiveGal asked: Particularly those who have admitted or those we suspect. For example, last night during the Angels-Nationals game, Paul Lo Duca was taken out complaining of feeling faint. I suspect he had a panic attack.

It could have been. Paulie hasn’t played left field since 2004 and just made an error before he came out of the game. Why did Manny Acta put him in the outfield in the first place?

I don’t know if they ever had attacks on the field but some that I thought of were:

Jim Eisenreich -
Tony Horton -
Alex Johnson -
Jim Piersall -

Jim Eisenreich did a few years ago. He started having it while in the outfield. Medication helped him have a big league career.

Well, Social Diva, it’s like this. I’m going to tell you about a ballplayer few folks on this site will know anything about.
Jimmy Piersall, number 37 on the Bosox, was famous for his strange behavior on the field. There are many wonderful stories about Jim. The time he hid behind the center field flag pole while the opposing team was hitting. When he went out to his centerfield position carrying a water pistol with which to shoot at the fans and the bullpen guys. He hit his 100th home run and ran around the bases backwards.

At the time, everyone thought he was hilarious. Little did we know that these acting out bits of his were symptoms of a very real mental illness. Jim was required to spend some time in a psychiatric facility.

But, for all his dizziness, Peirsall was a really wonderful ballplayer. One of the best defensive center fielders you could ever hope to see.

I wore Jim’s number 37 in little league, high school, and college. He and Teddy Ballgame were my absolute favorites. I still think of them often.
