Why do so many people start smoking when they start college?

alot of people smoke when they drink, and i dont know about you but ia drank alot in college….as a result i smoked, but dont now.
K that is the stupidest answer i have read in weeks!!!!
No one peer pressures you into smoking in college.

Its a social thing, everyone smokes in college so they have something in common to go do…not worth it..dont start

I started smoking 9 years ago when I was 14. Both of my parents smoked and I hated them for it. So why did I decide to smoke? Because everyone else was… or so I thought. I wanted to be rebellious and show my friends that I wasn’t afraid to do bad things. I’d imagine that’s part of the reason young people like us start smoking. Fortunately I was able to quit for some time, but picked it back up because I am addicted. I wish I’d never started in the first place, it’s truly an awful habit, and even more awful to break. Just remind yourself how awesome you are for not smoking, and let others make their own mistakes. They’ll eventually realize it was a bad choice. I know I did.

Maybe because when you turn 18 (the same time you enter college) you can legally smoke and they almost think it is a right of passage. And once you start you just can’t stop! I don’t smoke either and I noticed the same thing when I started college. You can’t even go outside on break for fresh air because there are so many smokers out there.

Also, maybe a lot of these people were “secret smokers” because it was legal before they started college but once they turned 18 they could be in public smoking.

the same reason that alot of people get pregnant get drunk high and rich and dead its like anything if u do it. it turns into a exaggerations of who you are.

because they think they r tough n can do everything by their self but they r not grown enough to smoke.n smoking can give u bad disease,so please don’t try to smoke.

Maybe its from the stress that is put on in life toward how am i going to do in life. Or some thing like that that makes them worried.

im glad u dont smoke, but i think because peer pressure,showing off, fitting in, but its not cool,cigs cost up to 4 or 5 dollars a pack im sure they can spend 200 dollars a month on something better…….BE SMART DONT START!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
