Nose bleeds are often caused by weak blood vessels in the nose, or it could be something more serious like you have an iron defficiency. No iron in your system thins you blood right out so the chances of you getting a nose bleed is also high, you dont necessarily have to be doing anything, it can just start. I recommend you go to your doctor and get a blood test done, this will confirm whether you have an iron deficiency or not. It is best to get it looked at just in case. I used to get them all the time. When you get one best way is put your head forward and apply pressure, your blood will clot quicker this way and the bleeding will stop, dont put your head back because it still runs down the back of your throat, not good for you. I hope this helps.

DON'T TILT YOUR HEAD BACK!!! If you tilt your head back when you have a nosebleed (epistaxis), all you are doing is diverting the blood into your stomach. The blood then irritates the lining of your stomach (blood and stomach acid don't get along very well), and you wind up throwing the blood back up.

Sometimes, dry air can cause your nose to bleed. Pinch the bridge of your nose (above the nostrils), and lean forward (probably over a sink or toilet). If you lean back, the blood will drip down your throat and you could choke.

you can get nose bleeds from drinking to much caffeine or your sinuses being inflamed the best thing you can do is pinch the top part of your nose and hold your head back, if the bleeding continues you should seek medical advice because you could have a sinus infection.

The best thing to do is to pinch the top of the nose at the bridge and apply an ice pack...some frozen peas would do. You have probably burst a tiny blood vessel in the nose, there always seems a lot of blood but this is the most common cause. You could have picked it during your sleep without knowing. If it continues best to get your Dr to check it out to make sure there is no other problem causing the bleeding.

A lot of times a bloody nose is caused from your sinuses being dry. If you pinch your nose right where the bone stops it helps, also try putting a cold cloth or ice pack on the back of your neck...not sure why that helps but it does. ☺ To prevent them you can put a little bit of petrolium or something on a q-tip and put in on the inside of your nostrils to moisten them.
