Maybe she should try state agencies. Medicaid is for very low income families, but I am not sure if it is available in Atlanta.

The only insurance or medical coverage that is available and is based on your income is state help, such as medicaid.

If she has applied for that and makes too much to qualify, which is an all too common situation, then depending on her situation there are a couple things to look into.

Assuming that she isn’t able to get insurance through her employer, or it may be too expensive, then she will need to look into her options for insuring her family independently. I would suggest speaking with an agent locally, they can help her sort through any available options based on her families needs & financial ability and answer any questions that she might have as well.

There are lots of things that need to be considered in regards to health insurance and what is covered, what is not, etc. Make sure that she asks any & all questions she can think of that pertain to her policy before actually making a decision on one. I’m not sure if she is needing it now simply because she wants to be prepared, or if there is someone that needs to go to the doctor immediately, because if so you want to make sure there isn’t a waiting period before the insurance will even come into play and help out.

But like I said, an independent agent in her area will be able to address all of that & more.

In the meantime, I suggest taking a look at Ameriplan as well. It’s a discount Medical Plan organization and since it is not insurance, there won’t be any limits or denials & she will be able to save immediately should anyone need to go to the doctor, dentist, get x-rays, etc. I have used the plan for 2 years now and love it. There are also many providers available in the Atlanta area, of which she can search if she’d like and see if their current provider is already with the plan. The site is
Have her take a look and hopefully it can help her out a bit as well!

Good Luck! And if I can help in any way just ask. Insurance is a bit intimidating at first but most people will be willing to help answer some of those concerns if you just ask.

Medicaid, is low income medical insurance.

Or if she’s not quite low income enough for that, she can apply for her children through the state children’s health insurance plan.

Or, she’ll have to buy a policy out of pocket or through her employer. The employer one will be cheapest, because usually the employer picks up the tab for a big chunk of it.

From questions I’ve seen on here before, I believe there is something called Peach Care for low-income children. She could probably get her kids on it and if nothing else, at least make it cheaper for her to find private insurance.
