I found him a better job, but there are no benefits. I am wondering if I can take on their medical insurance monthly costs so they dont even have to worry about it. Isnt there such a thing as a family package? I am 21 years old. I have no idea how much it might cost to pay for their medical insurance since this new job wouldnt provide that. My father is EXTREMELY healthy, and has a perfect bill of health, but is considered old..

Any ideas?

Tell your father not to quit his job with benefits!!! Health insurance is completely outrageous, especially at his age (even if he has perfect health). Since you are not a minor, you would not be able to get a family plan. It would probably be an individual plan for yourself, and one for your parents. I am not an insurance agent, so it’s best to get a quote from one, but I can tell you it’s going to be at least $200. a month for each of you, and that doesn’t include dental. That’s also assuming a VERY high deductible.

This is not an easy question to answer. I’m a nurse and a former insurance agent, too. Yes, it is possible but most complicated answers must start with “it depends….” For example, what state do your parents live in? What is their past and current health histories? Take medications at all? Recent surgeries? To start with an individually owned policy, your parents would have to contact a local insurance agent, or use esurance (google to find it) online for several options without having an agent over. Expect at age 63 to pay a lot, at 46, probably not so much. Some states allow insurance companies to deny issuing a policy based on pre-existing health problems or even medications. Sometimes a policy can be issued, but then the insurance premiums are only “guaranteed” for 1 year, then they sky-rocket. A more affordable option may be to look at non-insurance options like “Care Entree,” in which the person buys into a cooperative that purchases health care at the same rate insurance companies pay, not the retail you and I as consumers pay. See for more information. It’s basically the Costco of medical care. Hope this helps, at least it’s a couple of places to start. Oh, and at age 64 and 1/2, your dad can apply for medicare.
