Comments on: chlamydia help?

I’ve been back with my partner for 4months, after splitting up for a year, in this time we both had had different partners so before starting a sexual relationship with him again i decided to have some swabs taken at my doctors to rule out any chance of infections, all results came back negative. So we started having sex again, but when i asked my partner when he was last tested he didnt even know! I then decided to pick us up some free tests from C-Swap a chlamydia screening program run by the NHS. You basically take it home, fill the urine sample bottle, fill in your details and pop it in the post. Results take about 2weeks to come through. My partner being a typical man said well you do the test and if yours comes back negative then i know im fine! So i did it! 2weeks later, give or take a day or so, i get a txt from C-Swap saying my test results had come back positive for chlamydia. I presumed my partner had passed it on to me and called them and made an appointment for us both to go in for treatment. they were very good and made us an appointment at the same time so we went together. I went in first and they gave me 4 tablets to take then all at once and said no sex for a week, then my partner went in and they did the same, except took a urine sample to be tested too. We’ve been very good and had no sex for 6days now, in the hope that that’ll be the end of it and we can get back to normal……until this morning when my partner recieved a txt message from C-Swap saying his test results were negative!! He could’nt belive it, and rang me up shouting saying that if he was negative but i was positive i mus have either had chlamydia before getting back together or must have been cheating and caught it! And some how managed not to pass it to him! This is very upsetting as i know neither is true! This got me thinking, the result from one of the tests i had must have been wrong, so i gave C-Swap a call n spoke to the lady that had treated us and she explained in more medical terms, basically, that a swab is more accurate than urine test so possibly the home test i did and posted off could have come back with a wrong positive result, its very uncommon but possible, and it was more likely that the result from my swabs at the doctors were correct. She kindly aggreed to give my partner a call and explain this which was nice of her, but i cant help thinking will that be enough to put his mind to rest or will he constantly be thinking in the back of his mind that i’ve cheated. But i know i havent!

Well aside from the unfaithful business here is one possible scenario. Chlamydia as well as all bacteria are pretty resilient when it comes to survival outside the human body, sharing a towel can transfer the bacteria, or sweat off a person with chlamydia can transfer the bacteria alot of people don’t know this, so its best just to take the medication and be more careful of things you come in contact with, whether it be at a gym, nite club, or party.

Yes, your results could be affected by having sex the night before. You shouldn’t have sex for 2 or 3 days prior to a pap smear. And yeah, false positives are common. I had to get retested for ghonareah (Can’t spell it!!!) before because I tested positive, but it turned out the test was wrong. I was freaking out just like you are too cause I didn’t even have sex for like 5 months prior to that I was pretty sure the guy I was with before that (long-time good friend of mine) was clean.

I hate to tell you, but someone, either you or him, f*cked a some scummy person 6 months to a year ago. You need two things-

1, Testing for your husband, and you (just to be on the safe side)
2, A divorce lawyer

THeres several tests used to confirm infection. The most common ones are ELISA, DFA, and NAAT. Im guessing since you had a pap, either ELISA or DFA was performed. Any of the tests are subject to false positives or negatives but the odds are heavily in favor of unfaithfulness. I hate to speculate about your relationship but thats the most likely scenario. We’d have to assume the test in september was a false negative and you and/or your husband had a prior infection. Or we’d have to assume the recent test was a false positive and neither of you ever had it. Although these scenarios could be possible, its just unlikely. Regardless, any answers you receive from Y!A will be based puerly on speculation. You need definitive answers only your doctor can give.

chlamydia only stay dorment for like 6 months…a year tops…so someone had to be messing around…

Chlamydia is known as the “Silent Epidemic” because in women, it may not cause any symptom and will linger for months or years before being discovered. Symptoms that may occur include: unusual vaginal bleeding or discharge, pain in the abdomen, painful sexual intercourse, fever, painful urination or the urge to urinate more frequently than usual.

In men, chlamydia may not cause any symptoms, but symptoms that may occur include: a painful or burning sensation when urinating, an unusual discharge from the penis, swollen or tender testicles, or fever.

So there is a big chance that one of you infected the other unwillingly.

That being said however, having had frequent sexual relations with your husband and testing clean in September is a bit odd.
I do not know the statistics on pap smears to know their degree of accuracy.
I would definitely consult your physician on that.

You and your husband should both be treated, to avoid future complications.

If you have chlamydia that is the way it is, I’m almost sure there is no false positive. And you only get it through sex, so your husband should get tested now as well.
