The choice of a piece of jewelry can be seen as a very personal thing that only the wearer can really pick, but I believe that as long as you have a reasonable knowledge of the proposed recipient there should be very little problem. There is such a wide range of jewelry stores selling a huge variety of styles, prices and materials.
First you have to decide what type of jewelry you want to purchase. Rings can be a little difficult unless you know the recipient’s finger/ring size, or have them with you. Earrings can be a lovely gift as long as you know if they have pierced ears as earrings come in two types, pierced or clip on.
Necklaces and bracelets make very special gifts and you will be able to find one that matches the character of the person you wish to buy for. You can buy fashion/costume jewelry at very reasonable prices but if you want to “splash out” you can look at precious metals, silver, gold or even platinum. You can choose plain metal or something set with simulated stone or real gemstones, diamonds are still a favourite with most people. What ever you choose always try to buy something that compliments the person who is to wear it and is not too dissimilar to the jewelry they already wear. Then you can’t go too far wrong.
