Has anyone heard of giving heparin before gallbladder removal? If so why?

never heard of that, heparin also know as warfarin sodium is a blood thinner. Usually before surgery they do not want you on any forms of blood thinners due to the risks of bleeding out and needing a transfusion. I use it at work, I am a dialysis technician to keep my patients blood from clotting off on the machine. Good Luck on the surgery

my husband is on plavix, a much milder blood thinner, and they wean him off of it for things like dental surgery, never mind abdominal…I think you better double check on that info…does not seem at all right to me! good luck.
