Has anyone heard of giving heparin before gallbladder removal? If so why?
SUSAN H asked: I am scheduled for surgery on Friday. The nurse called me and told me that I would be given a pre-op shot of heparin. I have had 2 prior abdominal surgeries and have never had heparin. I do not know of one person who has had heparin before gallbladder surgery.

never heard of that, heparin also know as warfarin sodium is a blood thinner. Usually before surgery they do not want you on any forms of blood thinners due to the risks of bleeding out and needing a transfusion. I use it at work, I am a dialysis technician to keep my patients blood from clotting off on the machine. Good Luck on the surgery
