Cristina C asked:

hey guys.. my foot has been hurting for a while and i didnt know why so i went to the doctor and she said i had a “Stress Fracture” on one of my bones.. [in the middle of the foot] so she put me in a cast for 4-6 weeks.. and im using a walker to help me keep off the foot and to not put pressure on it. using the walker really hurts my wrists and palms.. any ideas about what i could do? its a pain in the butt to get to the bathroom and back w/o hurtin my wrists! :(… any opinions would be helpful. . and also, do you think the stress fracture will heal within that time? ive never had a fractured bone before. the doctor said if we didnt catch it in time it could have split into 2, and that really scared me. . . what do u think?

…another thing… how do they take the cast off? does it hurt?… is it possible that the blade can go a little too deep… i know the doctors are professionals.. but, idk, im a lil worried :-\..
im getting it off in 5 weeks.. is my foot going to be scaley and peeling? .. how do i wish it? i cant get the cast wet… and, sorry to be gross, but is it going to stink wen the doctor takes it off? im veryyyy clean and this grosses me out, to not wash my foot/1/2 leg. . uGhhh
well actually i HAD stress fractures recently so there starting to heal, but still hurt
another thing i have to add is that ive had shin splints multiple times and my ankles have ALWAYS been a problem so i have just learned to deal with them. plus im really good at track, and im competing with injuries and so i just feel that if i work through it then i would be the best without my injuries!!!
thx randy u helped!!!!! i just had to type this here cuz i wont use this acount ever again and so i wont be able to choose a best answer sorry lol
The doctor said I landed just right.

Anyway I have been put on crutches because of the mild pelvic fracture. While being on crutches is this going to slow down the healing time on my tailbone and rib? I have noticed while searching on the internet about tailbone breaks that it says not to become immobile that slows down healing. Any advice, personal eperience etc would be nice. This is my first break ever and I end up breaking three things. What an awful Memorial day I having.

Thanks to anyone that can help!
My doctor x-rayed my foot and said it did not require surgery but it would take 8 weeks to heal. Well, today Feb 4, 2007 i was swinging a baseball bat and i stepped with my left foot (the already fractured foot) and heard a snap with some pain. I am worried that i have re-broken the 5th metatarsal bone. What are the chances of surgery? If i do have surgery what will be my healing time? I do intend to meet with my doctor on this matter im just seeing if i can get a quicker response. Thank you to all who responde in advance!

Brendi asked:

Hello, 6 days ago I fractured my ankle (hairline fracture at the bottom tip of the fibula). They gave me a temporary cast at the emergency room and a day later an orthopedic surgeon gave me a splinter looking thing (long padded “boards” on each side of my leg held by two straps that wrap around my leg with velcro). My ankle has full movility with this, but it does protect the tender spot in case I hit it accidentally. My ankle is swollen and black but I’m in no pain unless I put pressure on my foot or touch the area. But I keep reading that people with similar fractures are immovilized with a cast or a boot. I was wondering if anyone had a similar breakage and what was used on the ankle… Thanks.

Although many people fail to see the warning signs, the issue of domestic violence is a major one in our country and all across the world. Countless women are battered and killed by their husbands and boyfriends on a daily basis. And I do mean literally ever day! Now, you may stop to ask yourself how this could be. It’s simply really; no one is helping these women in their desperate time of need. While it sounds utterly awful when you say it out loud, it’s true nonetheless. The same goes for numerous children. The key to assist in preventing and dealing with domestic violence is often keeping an eye out for the warning signs. Stop for a moment and think about the women and children you know. Is it possible they are being abused in any way?

When it comes to issues such as domestic violence, child abuse and spousal abuse, far too many individuals purposely choose to turn the other cheek. This actually assists the abusers and feeds the problem, hence making the situation worse. If there’s one thing everyone should know in regards to domestic violence, it’s that most abusers will redundantly tell the women and/or children being abused that they deserve it. The victims are taught not to tell. This is why so many kids and women alike suffer with domestic violence issues, but never have the courage to seek out help. But, as a friend or acquaintance it is your job also to sense such things and see what’s right in front of your face. The reality is that most abuse it tough to hide, and if you know someone who is being abused, then you should get them help whether they request you to or not. This goes double for children, who have very little power to protect themselves in the first place. It’s your duty as a human being to speak out and get them the help they deserve.

Naturally domestic violence and any sort of home abuse is tough to swallow. There are some things people can do to get a better grasp on domestic violence and how to deal with certain violent situations. A great place to begin is with Gavin De Becker’s book entitled “Protecting the Gift.” This will fill you in on how violent people function and think, and what the best ways to deal with domestic violence are. Get involved with violence prevention today.
