There are many useful and creative ways to shed those extra pounds – but there are also a lot of weight loss gimmicks on the market these days that you will want to steer clear of. For one thing, it is always best to avoid trendy fad diets. Recent examples include the green tea diet and the banana diet. Neither one of these diets has proven to be very effective. While it might seem at first that a few pounds have been shed, nature always leads our bodies to maintain homeostasis – as a result, shed pounds will always be gained back – sometimes even more pounds than were had before. Fad diets tend to have numerous negative side effects, including making people feel lazy, increasing the instability of the body’s metabolic conditions, and exhausting essential body muscles.

Just as people are better off steering clear of fad diets, fad exercises and equipment should also be avoided. It is commonly believed that all exercise must be done in a gym or with the usage of exercise equipment purchased for the home. The fact is, however, there are numerous other ways of exercising. The key is movement. Walking, hiking, jogging, weight training, and cycling are the best forms of exercise for those who want to lose weight – no fancy equipment is necessary!

Maintaining a healthy eating schedule has also been proven to help people lose weight. Don’t skip meals – a healthy breakfast, lunch, and light dinner will help you lose weight. Make sure your dinner is eaten at least four hours before you go to bed – this will help you shed pounds.

Try to run or walk at least three to six miles each day. Instead of driving to school or work, why not try walking? Going to school or work typically involves a trip on five days out of each week – if you can use this time to walk or run, you can also shed pounds. This method has worked for numerous people – and it is also a lot better for the environment. If this is unfeasible, join an athletic club that involves movement of some sort, such as an in line skating, marathon, or hiking club.

Don’t exercise just to exercise. Find a form of exercise that you actually enjoy doing. If you do not enjoy the scenery where you live, then try wearing headphones and listening to some music that you like as you walk or run. Give yourself a reason to enjoy walking.

Dedicate at least half an hour each morning to some form of aerobic exercise. It can be aerobics, swimming, jogging, cycling, or walking. These forms of exercise increase the secretion of fat burning hormones. It is incredibly effective because it also raises one’s basic metabolic rate and consumes calories. Our bodies were designed for daily movement. In the events that the body does not move for a long period of time, it will attempt to store as much fat as it possibly can. When you exercise, your body is given the signal to get rid of that fat. The first step is putting aside a block in your schedule that is dedicated to daily exercise.
